After Port hills snow sightings the kids took me home and Adam of chefness made Kirsty and I Quesedillas for dinner, we watched something on telly which I forget now... oh, Melanie Lynsky... and then retired to nynys. In the morning after a lazy start, showering and more chefness from Adam called pancakes, they took me too the Chch art gallery to see the Rita Angus exhibition. Marvellous. Very worth giving up a drive to Mt Hutt for snow searches. I've admired her work before but it was wonderful to see a chronological show with most of her major if not famous peices. Oils and watercolour spanning the late 20's as a college student, through to the late 60's. I appreciated greatly a showing of her working journals, as shows of this type often mask the artists process by only seeing the finished piece.
Kirsty took me to Lyttleton, and I loved it whilst loathing its winter coldness, and I could see why a suffering artist would want to live there in the pain of the cold and the shadow of a hill, the air still so breath stands still where you left it. We had hot drinks and breakfast foods, and drove home via Sumner and the beaches, stopping at the Woolston Salvation Army shop in case there were treasures to be found, but alas, none were there.
Later in the afternoon before I headed to the airport we went to Sydenham Sallies and I found an old coloured Retro pyrex dish, $8 to be mine, and the sum total of my spending save for getting lollies for Seb.
Flight back was easy and not bumpy, and the weather in Auckland was welcoming warm in contrast to the bitter sting of the South Island. 3 excited boys greeted me in the car and I got hugs and kisses from them all and it was nice to be home.
