I forgot to mention the weekend. Friday night was Amy's 35th birthday which I stuck up a photo of already, that was nice seeing her family, even nicer that my kids and Amy's young cousin Josh spent the evening playing with Josh's nintendo, beginning a new connection between the Harford and Mallaby families.
Saturday was all cleaning and Gabby came round to finalise her dance film that Seb cut together. The weather was complete arse rain and poo and I went to Briscoes to get new duvet covers for Coles bunks, 2 for $24 instead of one for 30. I like. Sunday we took a drive out to Huia to have lunch with Gabby, Estevez, Nureyev and Palace. I have no photos of this as my fucking camera ran out of juice.
Huia is about 40 minutes from our house, a quite picturesque bay suburb set in the waitakere ranges which looks out to the mouth of the Manukau harbour. It is quiet and isolated and would drive Seb and I nuts to live there but its undeniably pretty. Gabby and Este's place is almost at the end of the road and has awesome views over the water. Me being a cat person immediately wanted to play with Palace, who then face attacked me but by the time I left she was less insane and more my friend but I have a nice scratch on my forehead to tell the tale.
The nice thing about knowing people who do different stuff is being lulled out of the sleepy drone of your own life. After a nice lunch prepared by gabby, she left us to go get ready for her recital which we were going to watch, and Seb and I hung out with Estevez. A dancer together with an actor who up till last week was moonlighting as a school portrait photographer till he got the shits with it all and quit. No hes not spanish either, its a long story.
Este was painting an homage to Howard Hughes, and we discussed the finer point of Hughes weirdo OCD life and his rise and fall. Palace and I also played out in the garden with Nureyev, who is sporting 4 teeth now and hair he didn't have last time they came to our house. He's a pretty cool baby.
Gabby's dance piece named 'Hapu' was all about her journey of birth and pregnancy and an interpretation of the feeling of being public property as her tummy swelled and total strangers touched her and talked to her. I enjoyed it, it reminded me of being hapu (pregnant) myself with the boys. Seb had not let me watch the film while he made it coz Gabbys abit naked in some of it, but before the recital we had a quick review at the house, Gabby using a projector, we played the film in the lounge Seb holding up Nureyev's cloth nappy for a viewing canvas, Nureyev flapping the edge of the nappy in his little fist, unaware of his mummys pregnant belly shining on the material. It was touching and appropriate.
So yeah, I forgot to say all of that stuff.
oh oh oh and last night we watched this facinating doco called "The King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters". You should watch it, coz it has words like 'chumpatized' in it, and geeks. Seb and I laughed alot, because its retarded, I tried to read a book, but the documentary was like a bag of chips, eat one and you can't stop eating.
