3 down 3 to go and then theres swine flu.

I learnt yesterday that if any member of staff or a student gets swine flu the whole place goes into lockdown. Of course it would be highly irresponsible for an institution with a transient population of over 40,000 people not to have a bio hazard contingency which meant that everyone stayed home for the duration of a pandemic.
Funny then that msyelf and several other students have admitted to secretly hoping some poor person gets a faceload of pig disease effectively canning the rest of the semester. Given that theres 40,000 of us, I think the odds on of that happening are pretty fuckin high. 96 suspected cases in less that 5 days, woohoo you gotta love gross transmittable diseases.

But I jest...

Next on my agenda is my public policy essay which I have to start and start very soon or once again I will run out of time. For some stupid reason though running out of time seems to be a core ingrediant to forcing me past the fear of my own shortcomings and into writing a bunch of academic poo which I usually get good grades for. I have been disheartened to hear tho that the average stage 3 grade on their submission essay was a B-. B- is pretty crap. I want a high B, but Im thinking now I might get a High C to a mid B, for some reason the Maori department marks harder than any other faculty I've had the pleasure of joining, not even Politics marks as hard as they do.

We had a lecture today with Hone Harawira, MP for Te Tai Tokerau, my Northern electorate even though Im not on the Maori role. He starts talking about Kawiti his ancestor and so Im immediately like ok this dude is whanau somewhere along the line. He gets a bad rap in the press, in fact all those Harawiras do, espcially his mother Titiwhai. I remember my father telling me we were related somehow, so now I have my confirmation of that fact. Only this week they wrote about him in the papers for 'verbally abusing' a politics student at a lecture at Waikato, he brought it up today and said the guy had an agenda from the minute he opened his mouth, and so Hone shut him down. Of course this gets into the paper as Hone being agressive and using foul language, but doesn't tell you anything about what prompted him to speak in such a manner to the student or what that student said.

God this is quite boring isn't it... but I thought I would write about this today because I know that somewhere in the logs of History Hone will be written and it would be nice to have it remembered I was able to have an audience with him.

Onward now to my public policy essay, and then I have my Maori politics debate, my sociology essay and my 3 final exams and the semester is done.

Oh, next weekend is 48 hour festival, I will be sure to post the link to the movie once its done. I've no doubt Dan, Seb and Este will do a stellar performance this year just as they have in the past. :P
