Mothers day is a weird thing in my house, Seb has no mother, and Im not the mother of his children. For this reason mothers day has zero value for him. The Father of my children is dead and so I don't really get a mothers day. Behind most mothers day breakfasts and lunches or whatever, is the other parent of the kid (s), after all you can't expect children to have a clue about preparing a meal or buying a present, or else mothers would end up receiving trucks and barbies next to a bread and butter sandwich.
So yesterday we had our mothers day lunch at nanas, me, my mother and her mother, roast pork and veges topped off with lime lemon pie and chocolate pear meringue. Good times in my mouth. I had well accepted the chain of gifting to be me to my mum, her to her mum, none to me? And was pleasantly surprised to get a gift from my mum to me on behalf of the boys. Of course given that my mum is poor as a church mouse I was irritated that my gift giving/financial contribution to her wellbeing of socks and chocs was cancelled out by her gift back to me. Can't win. Be disspointed to get nothing, be annoyed to not help my mother. Given that we have not even had money for loo paper recently, it was 'kind of a big deal' to even be able to get her a present, I hate the whole process I think.
The boys offered to make me something this morning to eat, but I wasn'y hungry, so at least they have tried, I opted for pears in chocolate sauce and a roast pork sandwich made by myself, not really the breakfast of champs but tasty nonetheless.
Im embarking now on study, swimming in an abyss of theory, thinking its almost unbeleivable I have one more semester to go before I graduate. I ran into an old classmate from 2004 who graduated this week, she was doing part time post grad, but feels at 59, its time for her to spend some of her life with her whanau and was leaving me at the cafe to tell Tracey, one of our faculty staff she was pulling out. She told me how proud she was to have completed her degree and how satisfied she was with her achievement. She also said I will only be allowed 3 guests, so Mum, Seb and Nana. Sorry Martin, I was going to invite him as well but seems I won't be. Of course I would have asked Dad, but...
