I love you meems.

I picked her because she was the one in the litter who was fighting, she had real character and she was going to be a gift for Kobi's 5th birthday.
About 2 years ago she started to develop a skin allergy and began biting her fur out in an effort to stop the itching, she lost 2 teeth from all the chewing. We took her to the vet and they injected her with steroids to ease her discomfort, told me to give her sensitive diet food only, and deflea her. We did all that but it never got rid of her constant itchiness.

Not long after that injection I had her teeth cleaned, she was never quite right after the anaesthetic, took days to walk properly and was sensitive and finickity ever after. The last few weeks I've felt shes not been right in herself, fidgity and irritated. 3 days ago I thought when we got some more money I would take her to get checked out at the vet. The only reason I didn't was because she was eating, her eyes and coat were clear, it just seemed behavioural. I also noticed her dribbling like she never has, the nagging doubt was in the back of my head as I pushed forward with all the other stuff in life.

I had a big day yesterday, came home late with tea, we ate, I fell asleep in front of telly before 7pm. I was semi awake when  I heard a funny noise, and Seb went to the front door and opened it, I heard him say something about Mimi, and then he was calling my name very urgently. I leapt out of the bed and ran outside saying whats the matter???? and Mimi was laying on the top step of the deck fitting and gasping for air, her screams an attempt to get oxygen. I picked her up and tried to move her to clear her airway, her little body all floppy in a way that scared me so much I yelled at Seb to call vet even though it was 8 oclock at night.

while he spoke to the vet on the phone she turned her head and looked at me and took another gasp, and her eyes were completely dilated. I kept saying her name, and trying to move her to be more comfortable or to understand what the fuck was happening, hoping that this floppy little body wasn't finished. And then she let go on my lap, confirming my worst fear, all the while the children are standing there calling to her and looking confused and frightened. I think I held her for about 10 minutes before I could accept she had died, in complete shock at what had happened and I burst into tears.

I don't normally cry over animals, they come they go, and Im always sad but I think watching her die and not understanding why what just happened happened made it that much worse. The boys cried themselves to sleep, I encouraged them to give her a pat after I laid her in a box curled up like I thought she would be comfortable. She stayed warm for ages, this morning her body is all hard and the warmth has gone. Kobi wants to bury her at Mums house, outside the bedroom they sleep in, I think thats a good idea, so shes always close when they visit.

I woke up this morning missing her, missing her ceiling cat routine sitting on the bedhead above us, laying on my arms while I typed at my desk, I even got woken up this morning by phantom cat pole scratching.

I miss her very much.
