Auckland University is home to about 30-40,000 students and staff, a transient melee' of youth and old and ethnicity.... and cars. Being that its situated in the heart of the city this proves to be a slight issue.
This year they opened the brand new Owen Glenn Business school, boasting a rather sumptuous 1200 space carpark. 400 are designated for staff, and thats fair right? What about the students? Its a public carpark, of course it is, they want the revenue, but since when did 'student' and 'rich' ever fall into the same catagory. For $4 you can get an hours space. whoopee. I recently tried to apply for an 'earlybird park' of $10 a day with a concession card which would cost $20 to buy. The card is unlimited and ensures no matter what your length of stay it will only cost you $10.
upon my application, the beauracrats informed me that I wasn't 'eligible' as Im not taking enough 'points' to quantify 'need'. Fuck that I told them, you are fucking ridiculous I said afterwards. I rang the carpark man, he didn't ring me back. So instead I was reduced to paying 20 bucks for 5 hours. what a croc.
Down the road is a shitty gravel carpark, but its only $7 a day. This morning I tried to park there and got told 'sorry, we're full'. FUCK. Not only that but as of the 25th of the month, the council is banning parking on certain parts of Symonds St and Waterloo Quadrant... oh yeah, EXACTLY where I park for an hour on wednesdays.
Right now Im saying that 4 letter word starting with C.
