Sleepless

I haven't slept in my own bed now for about 3 nights. Its too hot. I can't sleep either so I end up sitting up watching movies all night.

On top, the cats have worms, I don't even wanna talk about how disgusting this is, but it kept me awake even longer last night dealing with the fucking things crawling out of you know where like an army. I dry retch at the thought.

I just saw that a girl I went to primary school with is a nana, we are only 37 years old and its begun. My own grandmother was 39, which wasn't weird in 1973, however in 2011, I have 37 year old friends who are just starting to have their children. They call this progress.

So this week we've been home, I embarked on post Xmas spring clean of the boys rooms, discovered melting bags of lollies, old bits of cardboard, about 15 packs of playing cards? 6 bags of rubbish and a donation box of toys to my nephew Sammy and Im almost there. Not quite as theres still a pile of shit on Coles bedroom floor.

I went to visit Amy, it was Gabriels 3rd birthday, and I called in on my mothers brother Christopher and his wife Rachel. Chris was born 4 years after me, my grandfather, who had left Nana for Chris's mother wasn't much of a communicator, and so Chris hasn't been anywhere near the kind of daily experience he should have been. He was 4 years old before Reg broke the news to his daughter that she had a new brother, and its had the effect of disconnection. Im trying hard to bridge the gap, and Chris' son Sammy is a wonderful kid. Sammys just turned 3 as well, and talks like an old man, I think my grandfather would have been enamoured.

Sebs started running, and playing golf, I could become a golf widow yet. We've been up to the park twice this week, Im teaching the boys how to jog. I know jogging is not hard, I remember jogging at 7, we did things like that in the 80's, but my kids were standing behind the door when an interest in physical education was handed out. I'm sure thats dad coming out in me, much like Brendans sports genes appear to be making a late entrance to Sebs life repertoire. Cole hates running, but I find its not so much the running, as it is having someone to run with. We aren't jogging that far, about 500 metres, and then walking back the other half km, but he's starting to like it. Working on the premise that I've told him hes in the top 8 boys of his year for sprints, I added that if he starts jogging he can kick their arses when cross country event starts.

He said to me yesterday 'Mum, at my old school, half the kids were smart, and the other half were just normal. At my new school EVERYONES smart! How can that be?', we jogged and walked and I talked about the social determinants of health and the socio-economic advantages of money to him, he's only 9 but he understands, money makes the world go round, especially in a capitalist system.

The boys go back to school in 2 weeks, this holiday went very quickly. In anticipation of the outlay to start school we're being abit frugal as well. In other news, I have been offered graduation application and have been accepted into the Bachelors of Arts Honours programme for Sociology, Im just waiting for the Arts Faculty to process the necessary paperwork. I went into Uni on Friday to attend my first cinema Utopia screening that Colin runs, it was also a chance to catch up with my classmates Jai and Shanti. On offer was 'Marnie' by Alfred Hitchcock. I'd reccommend it purely for the outrageous script, and Sean Connerys manny face. Im confident that Don Draper from MadMen is modelled, even slightly, on Connerys character Mark Rutland. Dashing, chauvantistic and well dressed. 'You're very very sexy when your face is clean' was by far my favourite line of the whole film. Go rent it.

that was the week. Its done. Next week.... Big Day Out. And more housework.
