when kids think we've never told the same lies

Kobi came into my room before 7am this morning to tell me he'd vomitted twice in the night and felt sick and achey. Seb spent yesterday in bed with a body flu, and on Monday night and Tuesday morning I experienced a rather unpleasant nausea which Seb got later on Tuesday afternoon causing him to throw up.

The point is I had no reason not to beleive my kid.

So Im calibrating how my day is sposed to work with a sick kid, and a kid at school and I have to be at Uni by 2pm. I drop Cole off and start to realise its Thursday.

Hang on....

Isn't this Thursday the SCHOOL TALENT QUEST????

And didn't kobi enter himself????

Oh no! he'll miss it!..... hang on a god damned minute.....

So I went home and walked in my sons room where he is lying forlornly in the bed, and I say:

me - ' Im going to ask you something and you might get angry with me but its important that I know... son, isn't today your talent quest?'

*forlorn face* kobi - 'yes'

me - ' did you really vomit last night?'

kobi 'yes!'

me - ' are you pretending to be sick but really its because you don't want to go in the talent quest?'

pause...... Kobi - " no Im sick"

me - " Kobi are you lying to me?"

*forlorn mask crumples* kobi - " awwwwwwwww!!!!! yes! I don't wanna go!'

me - ' so you didn't vomit last night?'

kobi - ' no.'

moral of the story is you can't beat the master former child liar at their own game.

he's at school now, and thats that.
