To Leon Tan I give thanks for this outstanding descriptor, the social tactile, or social virtual.
Its what happens when you see the social world map out before you that frightens me the most. When I visit a friends profile page, and see they are friends with someone else I know from a different realm, are sleeping with the ex of an aquaintance, or have befriended someone I slept with myself.
The walls begin to narrow very rapidly. I catch myself thinking " well remind yourself never to call so-and-so a bitch in front of such-and-such, in myspace/bebo/facebook land those peeps are buds."
And then theres Mystalking, facestalking... any kind of stalking. Virtual reality networking that mixes in and out of real world contact, allowing a window never before open to spill light all over everyones social movements, interations and indescretions. Once upon a time you only knew what you saw with your eyes, or heard on the end of a telephone. It is no wonder the instances of 'relationship pursuit' have gone up in the West, technology feeds incessantly our demands for instant gratification, we can find people with texts, mobile phone calls, and the internet, we can have it as soon as we want it.
So I walked off in the middle of this. But to round up my point, not that I had one, its a strange new turn in all events social when you introduce a technological spin to it. Mixed reality networking is the new black.
