Xmas is finished, again.

It wasn't too bad, I asked my son if he was dissapointed by it, and he said it 'felt' like all the big Xmas's of the past. I feel I have therefore as a mother, done my job. I was bothered by lacking in stuff to give but still managed to pull it off.
The problem with free marketism is that we are dragged along by its pull, even when we are thinking we are not participating in the bigness of mass consumption, we are still responding to the cleverness of niche consumption via benign home enterprises like the wonderful Kraftbomb. I enjoyed giving Kraftbomb things to my family, I like that they were essentially local, homemade products, but I can't escape the sinking feeling that Adorno cynicaly sees as pseudo individualisation, only on a much smaller scale. Chicken or the egg, which came first, the arguement is so bloody circular.

Yesterday I had visitations enmasse, Rose and Rod drove up from Tauranga to stay with his parents a few nights, and spent the afternoon at my house hanging out. I miss them alot, I miss that Sam and James don't get to see my boys. I miss seeing Mia growing. My cousin Christie also dropped in with coffee and cake and her little girl Nikita who is 12 days older than Lily. Shes a really nice girl, and I enjoy her company very much. We are hoping to catch up again with our other cousin Stacey who also lives in Tauranga, it means of course another road trip, but I get to see Rose and Rod possibly 3 times. We are thinking about going down on Sunday and leaving the kids there, and then taking a drive up to Matauri Bay where Sebs family have rented a place. it means lots of driving, lots of petrol, but Im looking forward to it.

New Years at my house, barbeque and maybe a couple of friends, not like last year with Dad going into Circular quay, watching the fireworks, all the people.....
